Just 1p secured you a bargain buy at Luton’s Marks & Spencer store this week. The Mall Arndale store has been hosting a Penny Bazaar from Wednesday (May 20), until Friday (May 22) where shoppers can pay just 1p for a selection of 20 products to mark 125 years of the world-famous chain trading on the British high street. The commemorative range includes jewellery sets, scarves, purses and underwear, as well as cufflinks, ties and socks. The 1p items are available on a first-come-first-served basis and customers are limited to five purchases. One penny is a suggested minimum donation for the goods, but all money spent will go towards the M&S 125 Charity Challenge, which aims to raise £1.25m for local and regional charities between now and September. M&S began life as a market stall in Leeds in 1884 and the 1p campaign sees the store return to its original Penny Bazaar roots. But when it’s gone, it’s gone – penny stock will not be replenished. It’s been two months since we started training and we practiced hard every day without much trouble but there was one problem. Instead of getting closer, we just drifted apart. WAKE UP!” Her hands wave in front of my face. “Oh, uh, yeah?” I ask. “We’re done and promise we’re continuing, right?” She implored.
